Off I go!

Dearest Friends,

I will be going to Haiti tomorrow. Thank you all for the support and encouragement up until this point. It has been a meaningful journey :) These photos are from the send-off that Jane and I had tonight.

Thank you all again! Blessings to you all and see you in eight days my loves!

Love,
Tammy

I'm leaving on a jet plane...

Dearest Friends,

It's crazy to think that I will leave in TWO days. I am partially packed--hopefully it will all be done tomorrow morning. You know me, I can be that way sometimes.

Tonight, at Solid Rock, we packed some bags for Haiti. These bags consisted of shoes (so many!), cooking supplies for the Lord's Kitchen, t-shirts to give out, snacks, paper towels, and...more. I am excited to see how these supplies will be used for God's people in Haiti :)

Tomorrow, we will be having a send-off event. This event is important for Jane and I because we really want to focus our efforts for God. Additionally, we believe in the power of prayers! Let us join as a community and pray for God's glory to shine forever and ever in Haiti. If it wasn't for this event, I could imagine myself ineffectively using my time and playing spider solitaire late into the night. So yay to the send-off! Yay to Jesus!

In Christ,
Tammy

Haiti Errands Day

Dearest Friends,

Today, Jane and I embarked on a journey throughout the city of Portland. First and foremost, we wanted to donate blood. Personally, I enjoy donating blood because I have a capable body of doing so--and more importantly, there are people in need. After visiting a country with malaria exposure, you aren't eligible to donate blood for another year. You can donate a maximum of six times per year with each donation saving three lives. If I do some math: 6 x 3 = 18 potential lives per year can benefit if you donate six times! Since I won't be able to donate blood for another year, I hope to influence at least 18 lives with my trip to Haiti :)

We were extremely fatigued and "off" after we donated blood, so we feasted on a burger and buffalo wings (after drinking Jamba Juice!)

Then, we went to purchase very important items: bug repellent, mosquito net, sunscreen, and dri-fit clothing (not pictured).

Lastly, I end my night with taking my anti-malarial medication. As I have mentioned before, it may cause side effects such as hallucinations, agitation, and blurry vision. Good thing I have the safety of my home for the night! :)

Hope you enjoyed my adventure recap!

Good night,
Tammy

Congratulations to my sister!

I attended my sister's graduation this past Friday. Our family is so proud of her! She graduated with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree.

Dearest Friends,

I shouldn't drink coffee at 6pm for no apparent reason. It's not like I had to concentrate to study or anything of the sorts. I drank it for leisurely purposes and oh how I regret it! I have been tossing and turning for the past two hours. And, I have to wake up soon for church..!

This week will be incredibly eventful as I will be running errands for my Haiti trip. My to-do list includes the following:
-Purchase Dri-Fit clothing because Haiti will be hot and humid.
-Donate blood because I will not be able to do so for another year after visiting a country with malaria.
-Purchase bug spray, a mosquito net, toilet paper, hand sanitizer, and anti-diarrheal medications. Did I mention how prone I am to mosquito bites? They flock to me.
-Start my anti-malarial prescription and hope against any sort of side effects that include nightmares and hallucinations.
-PRAYPRAYPRAYPRAYPRAY

Still tossing and turning,
Tammy

Dear Friends,

I am grateful to let you know that God has provided and I have met and surpassed my support needs! Thank you for all the prayers and support for this huge blessing. I am very touched and honored to have an amazing community. The encouragement that I have received for this trip has been so meaningful to me.

I have two months off and it feels nice to sort of let my mind turn into goop. Although I have free time now, somehow it always feels so busy! I'm always on the go: working part-time, playing part-time....but needing to study part-time, too. Eep, speaking of which, my lunch break is almost done. I will hopefully keep you updated with more glorious details about my trip (and perhaps life)! Especially when I go buy bug repellent.

:),
